It is with great honour that I present to you the 8th Annual SALGA Inter-Municipal Games in 2014, the year in which South Africa also celebrates 20 years of Freedom and democracy. This momentous occasion presents the perfect platform to honour Oliver Tambo, one of the stalwarts whose sacrifices led to South Africa being able to celebrate these 20 years of freedom. Similarly, this yearalso presents us all with an opportunity to reflect on how our democracy and freedom were achieved, the progress that has been made and how we plan to work together towards implementing and achieving Vision 2030.
The O.R Tambo Games by their nature are deigned to unite Local Government Officials in Gauteng through Sports and Recreation and serve as a vital platform for Municipal Officials to unlock their sporting potential whilst at the same time facilitating social cohesion within Local Government.
We are confident that this year’s chapter of the O.R Tambo Games will epitomize a remarkable landmark in the history of the games with the unprecedented support from the O.R Tambo Foundation. The Local Organising Committee has done a sterling job, assisted by the Gauteng Sports Council.
Our aim, though, is to produce world class sporting event which will continue to honour, our freedom fighter Oliver Reginald Tambo. We expect the 2014 Games to generate maximum fun and enjoyment for officials whilst promoting dedication and excellence. May these Games be a fountain for the promotion of inclusivity and unity of purpose in sport and recreation within the Gauteng Province.
We also wish all the teams and their coaches well.
May the best Municipality WIN!!!!
